Quoil Jewellery Gallery
This is a fairly complex site, created for a Wellington Jewellery Gallery. It was written almost entirely in PHP and has a large attached MySQL database which stores information about the jewellery. A separate custom written Content Management System enables the gallery to carry out all site updates in-house . This is called a “dynamic” site, in that the content of the page being viewed is assembled “on the fly” based on user input. The site also features Google Analytics for site visitor tracking.
Lavender Magic
This is a single page website for a local lavender products company. We supplied some of the interior and exterior photography and designed the logo and signage. The site also features Google Analytics for site visitor tracking.
Jeremy Bicknell Furniture
This is a single page website for a local custom furniture company. We supplied most of the photography and provided more images than usual for a single page site in order to match an existing brochure. The site also features a standard zoomable Google map and Google Analytics for site visitor tracking.
South Wairarapa Auto
This is a slightly more ambitious variation on the two single page websites shown below. It has a Flash slideshow and a second page because the company repairs cars and provides a towing service as well. I supplied most of the site photography. The site also features a standard zoomable Google map and Google Analytics for site visitor tracking.
Wild Oats
This is an example of a single page website, created for a cafe in Carterton. The site banner is a photomerge of several pictures I took of the mural on their south wall. The site also features a standard zoomable Google map and Google Analytics for site visitor tracking.
Bills Bach
This is an example of a single page website, created for a small holiday rental business in Taupo. The site also has a couple of site-specific added extras - a Google calendar for bookings that can be viewed by anyone and updated by the client, and a standard zoomable Google map.
NOTE: This is an offline copy of the site, as the residence has been sold.
Wairarapa SPCA
Click on the box to the left to see the current SPCA front page. I take the pictures of the animals and do all the updates on this one as well. It's also linked to the SPCA's Facebook page. I provide the update service free to the SPCA, because I like critters.
Big Redz Bus Company
Big Redz Bus Company is a transportation company covering the lower North Island. I designed their logo and supplied almost all of the site photography. I also shot and composited all of the images in the Flash slideshow.
Scandinavian Trail
This is a no-frills website for a charitable incorporated society. Although it has a newsletter page and a user's contributions page, these functions could also be achieved by creating a linked interest group page on Facebook.
Magnolia Villa
Magnolia Villa is a Bed & Breakfast in Carterton. Their website has a good slideshow. I provided some of the photography, including the magnolia flower pics.

Natural Fantasy
Natural Fantasy is a website redesign devoted to the artwork of Wairarapa Pastel artist Carol Banner. Carol and I share an interest in M.C. Escher and Art Nouveau, which is why she trusted me to design her site. I photographed the bulk of the artwork myself. I also put the site on Google Analytics. The slideshow was created in Flash and the DHTML was implemented in PHP.
New Pacific Studio
New Pacific Studio is an idyllic artist's retreat near Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa. The client supplied the pictures. One interesting thing about this design is that it also has an associated Wordpress blog which I customised to look as much like the site itself as possible. The on-line residency application collection form is PHP driven and has error trapping. Apart from that the site is all HTML and CSS, but it has a couple of old school tables being used for displaying tabular data.
Bks Chardonnay Motor Lodge
BK's Chardonnay Motor Lodge is a member of the BK's NZ motel chain. I redesigned the BK's Chardonnay site, and made sure they were on Google Analytics. This is my first purely commercial website design where chain branding look and feel was a major factor. The clients chose the colour scheme. I also supplied some of the room pictures and the images in the Flash slideshow.
Ace Aviation
Ace Aviation is a Masterton based flying school. This site incorporates a link to video content on YouTube. Click on the box to the left to see the current Ace Aviation front page.
About these websites: the tech details
What you see above was created with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Java, Flash, PHP/mySQL and hand coding. We also designed the site graphics, logos etc and took most of the pictures. We use all all CSS and currently test against XHTML for new sites.
Our resident web designer/consultant AJ Hunter has many years experience in motion pictures, digital and electronic special effects, 3D animation, network television, video, print media and web design. He is also a qualified lecturer in graphics arts, 3D animation, video, audio and digital photography and was employed in this role at UCOL for 5 years. Domain registration
When you register a domain name, (or we do it for you) for example mysite.co.nz, you are paying for the exclusive right to use that domain name on the internet. Anyone who types mysite.co.nz into a search engine will be directed to your site. It's like having your own personal unique worldwide internet phone number.
Website hosting
Once you own a domain name, you'll need to find a physical home for your new mysite.co.nz website.
The computer that hosts your website is called a server and it belongs to your ISP - your Internet Service provider. We can take of this for you.
HTML, PHP, mySQL, Flash, Javascript
What you are reading on this page is written using HTML, the computer language of the internet. PHP is used to create dynamic interactive web pages, ones that do some task based on user input, like filling out an on-line form. mySQL is a database application for websites that require product catalogs, etc. Flash is used to create slideshows and other website animations and Javascript is used to make web pages interact with the user, for example menu buttons that change when the cursor rolls over them.
CSS
This is currently the most advanced method available on the internet for formatting web page content, ie determining how the words appear, what colour they are, how pictures are displayed, etc. A web designer who uses CSS can quickly change the appearance of an entire website with a few keystrokes.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO is a term used to define a range of strategies which determine how Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc rate the importance of a website, and hence where it will appear in search results.
The object is to get the best rank possible for a website, by making the site as search engine friendly as possible, using legitimate methods. Most SEO involves common sense and simple best practice when designing websites. EnZed PCs endeavour to incorporate SEO into all new designs.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free service provided by Google which enables a web site designer or site owner to keep track of who is visiting their site, what they did there, how they got there and how long they stayed.
EnZed PCs sign all website design clients up for Google Analytics and provide them with a login and password to access their visitor statistics.
